Prototype 0.5

Hey guys.

I got an idea for the MVP and I thought this was an awesome place to start continuous devlogs. First of all, this is what prototype 0.1 was:

And this Is what I have now:

I polished the game, there’s no sound effects, but I added colors and I changed the concept of house and wood to grass and field, since my artist (a cousin who happens to have an ipad) did not send me the well-deserved house image. Also, as you can see, screenshot were taken before exporting, so the wood labels are still there.

Every game has its development levels. Some game devs love export, because it’s the end, some hate it because of the very same reason. I, for one, hate it because it happens to be the end, but a very long and painful end. At every step you assume “this is it”, but that’s not it. There’s a bug. And a bug. And another bug. And when you spend 8 hours coding, but 2 hours exporting what’s already made is a different kind of pain.

I was going crazy around 15 minutes ago. Just because a file was named name.html and not index.html, I failed to upload 2 games. I was trying to fix that bug for a week, roughly for 5 hours. And in the end, It was the name of a file – very simple, very difficult to find.

Just yesterday I was doubting whether I wanted to pursue game development. I had made two games I could not upload, and most importantly,  they had not sparked anything in me, It was just a checklist.  Each of them took 14 hours, yet they can’t compare to this one. This one has actual future, actual scope and that, cuties, excites me the most.

So yayyyy! PROTOTYPE 0.5 IS DONE! MHMM. I already uploaded it and am waiting for itch.io moderators to go over it (if that’s what happens).

For now, Nyse out.
